Nutrition Topic of the Month: Healthy Resolutions
With each new year, come new resolutions. Here are some of the most popular resolutions, according to USA.gov:
Lose weight, Manage debt/save money, Get a better job, Get fit, Eat right, Get a better education, Drink less alcohol, Quit smoking, Reduce stress overall and/or at work, Take a trip,Volunteer to help others
6 of the top 11 most common resolutionss are centered around health! However, many resolutions go unachieved because they have no plan to support their achievement. If you resolve to change your diet or lifestyle in some way this year, make a plan that will stick!
The National Weight Control Registry (http://www.nwcr.ws/ ) is tracking over 5,000 individuals who have lost significant amounts of weight and kept it off for long periods of time. They have found the following:
78% eat breakfast every day.
75% weigh them self at least once a week.
62% watch less than 10 hours of TV per week.
90% exercise, on average, about 1 hour per day.
In addition, multiple studies have shown that instruction by a registered dietitian (RD) is an effective weight loss strategy for various populations, different disease conditions, and in multiple settings.
If you would like to work with an RD to achieve your resolutions, contact SoCal Nutrition & Wellness (janice@socalnw.com or 310-270-8985). Can’t find the time to meet in-person? Ask about the E-Health Consulting option.
