Don’t skip meals. Skipping meals to lose weight just doesn’t work! Two things happen when we skip meals:
1) Skipping meals causes our metabolism to slow down. During hunter/gatherer days, our bodies were trained to store for periods of starvation. When we skip meals repeatedly, our bodies re-learn this behavior. Skipping meals can actually make the body more efficient and cause metabolism to slow down and hang onto excess calories!
2) Skipping meals causes us to eat more at the next meal. Skip lunch and by the time dinner comes, you will be so famished that you will tend to consume more calories.
To achieve a healthy body weight, aim for at least 3 balanced meals per day, spaced about 4-5 hours apart.
