Cotton Idea Studio in Laguna Beach
Did you know about this darling shop in Laguna beach…custom letterpress wedding invites, personalized note cards, business cards or even just a happy birthday card off the shelf. I agree with her about Invitations, she says “It can serve a wonderful introduction to guests about what they can expect from your upcoming wedding celebration. Use your wedding stationery as an opportunity to define the overall look of your event”
Here are a few Q&A with Mindy Mayer of www.cottonideastudio.com
What do you feel is so special about letterpress stationery? Letterpress – it’s absolutely beautiful, and in my opinion, nothing quite compares. It has a very distinct look, and is truly a form of artful printing. Each piece of paper is hand-fed through a vintage press, and ink is pressed into soft cotton paper, leaving an impression that is crisp and exquisite. Letterpress printing exudes quality and craftsmanship, and is especially lovely for wedding invitations.
What is the first thing for a couple to think about when they are looking at wedding invitations? Often times, clients underestimate the amount of time that is needed for both the design and printing process for invitations. The design process typically takes about 2 to 3 weeks, and the printing process has an additional 3 to 4 week turnaround, particularly with letterpress. When possible, I advise brides to order invitations 4 to 6 months in advance of their wedding date, in order to allow for standard turnaround times with one’s designer, printer and calligrapher.
What are your favorite styles? Our brides LOVE letterpress! They want all of their wedding pieces pressed on thick, 100% cotton paper (tree free!)
What are your most popular styles? A popular style with recent brides is utilizing “wallpaper” backing and lining for invitation pieces. One of our most popular invitation collections this year is Mr. Boddington’s Studio, based out of New York City. Their wedding album includes a wonderful “design pantry” full of fabulous patterns and color combinations, which encourages brides to customize every element of their invitation package.
